Dermal Fillers in Croydon Natural-Looking Results from a Nurse-Led Clinic

Our Croydon clinic offers hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for lips, cheeks, jawline and nose, assessed and delivered by an Advanced Aesthetic Medical Practitioner and Independent Prescriber with over 15 years in the industry.

Dermal fillers at our Croydon clinic use hyaluronic acid-based gel to restore volume, smooth lines and reshape facial features such as the lips, cheeks, jaw and nose. Treatment is carried out by a qualified independent prescriber, takes around 45 to 90 minutes depending on the area, and results are visible immediately with minimal downtime.

TREATMENT OVERVIEW

How Do Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers Work?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance your body already produces naturally, found in skin, joints and connective tissue, where it holds onto water to keep tissue hydrated and supported. Dermal fillers use a lab-made, biocompatible version of HA, formulated into a gel and injected beneath the skin to add volume, support sagging tissue, or refine contours such as the jawline or nose bridge.

Different HA formulations are cross-linked and thickened to different degrees, which changes how they behave once placed. A softer, more fluid gel spreads and integrates well in the lips, where movement and softness matter. A firmer, more structured gel holds its shape better in areas like the cheek or jaw, where lift and definition are the goal. This is why the product used for lip filler is rarely the same one used to rebuild cheek volume, and why product selection is as much a clinical decision as the injection itself. Initial swelling usually settles within one to two weeks, at which point the true result becomes visible.

OUR PROCESS

How We Approach Dermal Filler Treatment

  • Consultation — full medical history, allergy check, and an honest conversation about what you want to achieve.
  • Facial assessment — Franca evaluates your facial proportions, skin quality, bone structure and existing volume loss before any product is discussed.
  • Treatment suitability — confirming filler is the right option for your goal, and flagging if a different treatment (or no treatment) would serve you better.
  • Product selection — choosing a formulation suited to the area, based on how firm, soft or structured that tissue needs to be.
  • Injection technique — using a needle or cannula depending on the area, working in small, controlled amounts rather than one large volume.
  • Conservative dosing — starting with less product than may ultimately be used, since more can always be added at review, but removing filler is a separate procedure.
  • Review — checking in after swelling has settled to see the true result and whether any refinement is needed.
  • Dissolving or adjustment — if a correction is needed, hyaluronidase can dissolve HA filler, giving you a safety net that isn’t available with all treatments.

OUR EXPERTS

Meet the Practitioners

Franca Lenders

Advanced Aesthetic Medical Practitioner & Independent Prescriber Franca has over 15 years of clinical experience, trained at St George’s University Hospital and Surrey University, and is a member of the Royal College of Nursing and the British Association of Cosmetic Nurses. She has treated over 4,000 patients and carries out every dermal filler consultation and treatment personally.

As an independent prescriber, Franca is qualified to independently assess and, where clinically appropriate, prescribe within her scope of practice, rather than needing a separate prescriber to sign off on treatment. In practice, this means your assessment, suitability decision and treatment plan sit with one clinician who has the training to make that call, rather than being split across different people.

Skin & Laser Therapist Natalia supports the clinic’s wider skin and laser treatments, working alongside Franca to give patients continuity of care across their skincare and aesthetic journey.

PATIENT SUITABILITY

Who Is Dermal Filler Treatment Suitable For?

Ideal candidates for facial fillers

  • Adults (18+) looking to restore lost volume in the cheeks, temples or under-eye area
  • Anyone wanting to enhance lip shape and hydration with lip filler
  • People with visible nasolabial folds, marionette lines or a less defined jawline
  • Those wanting a non-surgical nose reshape to smooth a bump or correct minor asymmetry
  • Patients who want subtle, natural-looking results rather than an “overfilled” appearance

When to wait or avoid treatment

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infections, cold sores or breakouts in the treatment area
  • Recent chemical peels, laser treatment or dental work in the past two weeks
  • A history of autoimmune conditions affecting healing, unless cleared by your GP
  • Anyone currently on medication or supplements that increase bleeding risk — see note below

A note on medication before treatment If you take a prescribed medication that thins the blood, do not stop or change it before your appointment without speaking to the clinician who prescribed it. Bring this up at consultation instead, so Franca can assess your suitability around your existing prescription. Where relevant, we may ask you to avoid non-prescribed, over-the-counter products such as ibuprofen or certain supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, St John’s Wort) in the days before treatment, as these can increase bruising risk. This guidance will always be confirmed individually at your consultation, not applied as a blanket rule.

Dermal Fillers vs Anti-Wrinkle Injections Which Do You Need?

These two treatments are often confused, but they work in different ways and solve different problems.
Dermal Fillers Anti-Wrinkle Injections
What they do Add volume and structure Relax targeted muscles
Common areas Lips, cheeks, chin, jawline, nose Forehead, frown lines, crow's feet
Best for Static lines and lost volume Dynamic lines caused by movement
Reversible? HA fillers can be dissolved Wears off naturally over time
Which is appropriate depends on the concern and your facial assessment some patients benefit from one, the other, or both used together. This will always be discussed at your consultation rather than assumed in advance.

SAFETY & RISKS

Risks and Possible Complications

Dermal filler is a medical procedure, and like any injectable treatment it carries some risk alongside the benefits. Being upfront about this is part of how we work, and it’s something Franca talks through at every consultation.

Common and usually short-lived

  • Swelling, bruising and redness at the injection site
  • Tenderness or mild discomfort for a few days
  • Small lumps or irregularities that settle as swelling reduces

Less common

  • Asymmetry, which can usually be corrected at review
  • Infection at the injection site
  • Delayed inflammatory reactions, sometimes appearing weeks after treatment

Less common

  • Vascular occlusion (filler affecting blood flow), which requires urgent treatment
  • Skin injury or, very rarely, tissue damage if blood flow is affected and not addressed promptly

We screen for risk factors at consultation and use technique and conservative dosing to reduce these risks, but no injectable treatment can be guaranteed complication-free. If you notice unusual pain, discolouration, or anything that doesn’t feel right after treatment, contact the clinic straight away do not wait for your next appointment. Patients are given direct contact details for exactly this reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which type of dermal filler I need?

This depends on the area being treated and the result you want. Softer, more fluid formulations are typically used in the lips for a natural feel, while firmer, more structured gels are used in areas like the cheek or jaw where lift and support matter more. Franca selects the product based on your facial assessment rather than a fixed formula.

How much filler will I need?

This varies by person and by area — someone with more natural volume loss may need more product than someone seeking subtle enhancement. We take a conservative approach, starting with less and building up at review if needed, rather than over-delivering in one session.

Can dermal fillers make my face look unnatural?

They can, if too much product is used or it’s placed without regard to your natural proportions. There’s a difference between restoring volume you’ve lost, enhancing a feature you already have, and adding excessive volume that changes your appearance beyond what looks natural. Our approach is built around the first two.

Can I have filler if I've had filler elsewhere before?

Often yes, but it’s discussed at consultation. Franca will ask what was used previously and when, since old filler still present in the tissue affects how new product should be placed.

Can old filler be dissolved before new filler is placed?

Yes. Hyaluronidase can dissolve existing HA filler, which is sometimes recommended before fresh treatment, particularly if previous filler has migrated or isn’t sitting how you’d like.

What happens if I develop a complication?

Contact the clinic immediately rather than waiting for your next appointment. Most issues, such as swelling or minor asymmetry, are straightforward to manage. Rare but serious complications, such as vascular occlusion, require urgent attention, which is why patients are given direct contact details after treatment.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Most hyaluronic acid dermal fillers last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the area treated, the product used and how quickly your body breaks it down. Lip filler tends to soften faster than cheek or jawline filler.

Does dermal filler hurt?

Most patients feel mild pressure or a brief sting rather than significant pain, and numbing cream is applied beforehand to keep you comfortable throughout the appointment.

Is there downtime after dermal fillers?

There’s no real downtime, though mild swelling or bruising can last a few days. Most patients return to normal activities the same day and simply avoid strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours.

Is the practitioner qualified?

Yes. Treatments are carried out by Franca Lenders, an Advanced Aesthetic Medical Practitioner and Independent Prescriber with 15+ years of experience, and the clinic has held Save Face accreditation since 2020.
