How Does Milia Extraction Work?
Milia are small, hard white or yellowish bumps that form when keratin, a protein found in skin and hair, becomes trapped just beneath the surface of the skin rather than shedding naturally. Unlike a blackhead or spot, milia have no visible opening, which is why they can’t be squeezed or extracted with standard blemish tools.
Milia needle extraction uses a fine, sterile needle to create a tiny opening directly over the milium, allowing the trapped keratin to be gently released. Because the technique is precise and controlled, it can safely be used on more delicate areas, including close to the eye and on the eyelid itself, where standard extraction methods aren’t appropriate.
This same careful, needle-based approach is also used for a range of other common minor skin lesions, including skin tags, thread veins, seborrheic keratosis, verrucas, cherry angiomas, sebaceous cysts and warts, each assessed individually before the right technique is chosen.
